New Moon in Pisces; March 2024

Updated: Mar 6

In just a handful of days, on March 10th, 2024 we have a new moon in Pisces. The chart is quite concentrated at the moment, offering limited aspects to the moon at this point in it's cycle. The sun and moon meet at 20 degrees of Pisces, newly in that third decan of the sign, ruled by Mars. This decan is the first of two, the only two in the entire zodiac, that are ruled by the same planet back to back this way as we head into the astrological new year. The symbolic nature of this permeates these few days from the year. The fire of Mars heats the earth after the coldness of winter, preparing it for the growth and movement of early spring.

As we approach the spring equinox, there is a forward momentum present with all planets in direct motion. The equinox is the quantitative indication of a turn of the seasons, we see movement of a world once frozen. What was paused is given action once again as everything begins to come to life again. New shoots spring forth from the once hard ground, buds appear on the bare tree branches, wildlife begins to stir again. For me, here in the warmer state of Florida, we see more sun as the wettness of this past winter clears, an unusual seasonal climate for us. Much like this new seasonal movement, the aspects made to this particular new moon reflect an energy of change. There is a tight, separating sextile to Uranus, and a conjunction to both Neptune and Saturn. The ruler of Pisces, Jupiter, makes a close sextile to Saturn. And while we may experience sudden, unexpected change, we can trust that these changes offer an aligned path forward, providing us with new stability and setting a solid foundation for what we're currently building in our lives.

When we look at the moon cycles and how to work with them, we know the new moon is a time in which we have a cleared way for something new to be brought forth. What is it that our mind's eye is creating for us? Pisces is a sign of hopefulness and dreams, there is something special about it, when utilized healthfully, that allows us to turn our dreams into something tangible. And maybe it is that Martial energy of the third decan that provides that action needed to make our dreams reality.

This new moon takes place in gate 22.4, and much like the channel of openness, 12-22, the energy of this moon may require us to take a step back and observe the energy coming forward before reaching clarity. Gate 22 is here to listen before speaking. It is designed to hear the tonality of those around it, checking in and seeing what 'mood' is in the air before coming to a place of clarity. In the fourth line, there is a fixedness here, it is constantly trying to modify it's behavior in effort to enrich an interaction. However, in order to truly bring the change it's here to bring, there is an informality or laxness that is required to bring ease into its relationships and nurture a sense of connection, something that it can feel alien from at times as an individual. Looking back at Jupiter, which plays an important role this lunation, we see that he is located in gate 24.6; Rationalizing, Endowment. Here Jupiter is exalted, and can spot opportunities by looking from a logical perspective, weighing the positives and otherwise.

As I described this time last year, this decan is represented by a cup filled with blood in Austin Coppock's book The 36 Faces. It is a portal, allowing us to move from death into a new way of being, a rebirth of sorts. I've found there is so much pressure for us to push & take action, a desire for control. But the true magic has been showing up, birthed from a place of surrender, a place of relinquishing control and allowing the correct opportunities to show up at our feet. And, having the awareness needed to find which of these are actually correct for us, that recognize us, that bring us satisfaction, peace, surprise.

Sending you off, this new moon, with much trust and well wishes.
